Fallout from footballers’ study

A study of 187 footballers from several top UK clubs has been published in The British Journal of Sports Medicine.

It found that nearly one in four players has tooth decay which could affect their match performance. Others reported pain or discomfort from gum disease infections and acid wear.

Researchers aren’t saying the exact cause but suspicion falls on the consumption of sports drinks which are high in sugars and acids.

Maybe it’s time for everyone including athletes to rethink their drink.

Keeping the mouth healthy is a wise investment for our overall health and wellbeing.
