    Another tip for staying safe

Good personal hygiene is more important than ever during the COVID-19 outbreak – and that includes oral hygiene.

The Journal of Laboratory Physicians reports that an intimate 10 second kiss transfers as many as 8 million bacteria and an unknown number of viruses from person to person. Practice meticulous cleaning of your teeth, gums and tongue every day to reduce the germ load. Avoid kissing someone who has an illness or an open sore/blister around the mouth.

We want to help keep you stay safe, healthy and happy. Don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns. We're here to help!

At this time, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are only recommending Hydrogen Peroxide as a pre-procedural rinse in dental offices to destroy the COVID-19 virus in saliva. The concentration should be at least 0.5%.

For home use, Colgate Peroxyl or Listerine Whitening Mouthrinse which contain 1.5% Hydrogen Peroxide is recommended. These rinses are available at chemists and some supermarkets.

It’s important to rinse for 60 seconds then spit out. Use twice daily or as directed by your dentist.

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), a simple regimen for toothbrush care is sufficient to remove most microorganisms from your toothbrush and limit the spread of disease.

Here are some common-sense steps you can take:
Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water before /after flossing and brushing.
    • After brushing, rinse your toothbrush with warm water and store it upright to air-dry.
    • Don't cover your toothbrush or place it in a closed container until it is completely dry. A moist environment can foster bacterial growth.
    • Use a completely dry toothbrush. Everyone should have two toothbrushes to give ample time (24 hours) for each brush to dry out in between uses.
Don't share a toothbrush with anyone. Also, don't store toothbrushes in a way that might cause them to touch and spread germs.
    • Always replace your toothbrush after a cold or other illness to prevent contamination.
If you or someone else in your family is sick, that person should use a different tube of toothpaste to prevent spreading germs to other toothbrushes.
    • Disinfect your toothbrush holder at least once a week
